The boys have been playing outside almost every afternoon. And it breaks my heart to make them come in to do their study words and math homework. I have to say, they are not the only ones who have Spring Fever right now. It is times like this that homeschooling starts to sound like a great plan.
Just kidding.
Well, last week while reworking some things in the craft room, I ran across these patchwork pieces again. Do you remember them?
They have been sitting in a pile for over a year now, just begging to be put to work somehow.
I was trying to decide whether to go ahead and sew them into something or frame them. And I had just about decided to applique the dresden plates to a solid light colored piece of linen and then quilt it similarly to Beki's anthropologie knock-off pillows, when the sewing machine quit on me.
When you press the foot, the machine sounds OK, but the needle isn't moving up and down. So, no sewing machine.
While the sewing machine is at the shop, I took the hint and framed them instead.
I really like how they turned out and I've been playing around with where to hang them.
But now I still have 127 other patchwork pieces like the ones below.
So, the question is, what do I do with the rest?
They are all vintage feedsack prints that we think my great-grandmother Hays pieced...is that right Mom?
They would make a great circle quilt.
Or, I think this would be called a "snake in the grass" pattern, right?
I don't know what this pattern is called, but I like it too.
I have to tell you, I am extremely intimidated to actually make them into a quilt. Sewing circles scares the daylights out of me. But I would love to finish the work that my great grandmother began almost 100 years ago. How cool would that be?
So, what would you do with them?
