Zinnias are one of my most favorite flowers of all time. When I was little, my mom would plant an entire row of zinnias in our vegetable garden just for cutting.
According to GGW one of my weekly garden reads, Zinnias are originally native to Mexico and Central America. They love well-drained soil and full sun. They are drought tolerant once established and prefer hot and dry weather. (So don’t overwater them!)
In my opinion though the best thing about Zinnia's are the colors. The vibrant hues are incomparible. And the more you cut them, the more they bloom.
Zinnias are for sure a flower that performs under pressure. Who would not love a row of zinnia's in their vegetable garden? I think they are just the most perfect summer flower.
Also doing well in our garden in the middle of this hot, dry dummer are marigolds, and periwinkles. The tomatoes are ripening quickly with so much sunshine. As so the melons and cucumbers. And of course the sunflowers seem to be happy in the heat too. But I just can't stop taking photos of the zinnias.
What's flowering in your garden these days?
