Like I said below, things have been busy around here. There HAS been sewing time, but I had a deadline to meet (which is unusual, but welcome at the same time). And there was no time to post until the two projects were completed and in the mail. Wow, I just typed the word "time" three "times" in the last paragraph - must really be something I am struggling with right now.
Anyway, the projects are fiished and on their way to be photographed.
And no, your eyes are not deceiving you. By just looking at the photo above you might think you have arrived at the wrong blog, one with girlies in the household. But no, you are at the right place. And there is pink in the project above. And lots of it. Pinks so sweet they make your teeth hurt. Those stripes remind me of the fruit striped gum from when I was a kid. The gum that tasted yummy good, but only lasted about 2 minutes and then you had to get another piece. I usually ended up eating the whole pack in an afternoon. Yep, these little project are sweet like fruit stripe gum.
I think it is safe to reveal it all now - if not, sorry, but I am bad about keeping good news a secret. A few months ago I got an email inviting me to submit a project for a new book being published by Lark Books. The book's working title is PILLOWCASE CHALLENGE and it will include fun projects to make from vintage or otherwise recycled pillowcases. As you know, I am a huge proponent of repurposing, but the thing I love most is that single pillowcases can still be found at garage sales and thrift stores for pennies. And to be able to create something beautiful from an inexpensive cast off makes my heart sing. Really it does. I know, Im a dork.
I ended up submitting two projects and both were accepted. But you will have to wait until the fall to get the full story and instructions when the book is released. But Lark is still accepting submissions of pillowcase memories here. Below is the skinny on submissions.
"Pillowcase Written Memories
Share with us your favorite memory of a pillowcase past. Perhaps it’s the one you couldn’t part with as a child, a cherished heirloom piece created by a loved one, a delightful patterned number that you simply had to have. If we select your written reminiscence for inclusion in the book, you’ll receive credit in the book, a free copy of the book and perhaps we’ll even feature your memory on our web site. Send your pillowcase passion to us in 200 words or less by June 7."
And I have some other fun news to share later in the week. Here is a teaser for you. I would love to post about it now, but I have to hit the commissary. We are out of literally everything in the pantry and the fridge. The boys had peanut butter on saltines this morning for breakfast. Bad mama!
Have a great Thursday all!
