I have been putting off unpacking the sewing machines and the gazillion boxes of fabric, trims, yarn and all that goes with it because I knew that once it was all out it would be a distraction from all of the things that MUST get unpacked. However Saturday morning the unpacking status was: the kitchen unpacked and put away, the twins room mostly unpacked except for a box of clothes that needs to be gone through in detail, and the little one's room all unpacked and put away. So with a sweet little girly having a 5th birthday party that afternoon and in need of an apron to hold all of her crayons while she draws butterflies. She can't go on any longer with her crayons all desheveled, scattered willy-nilly all over the table. What was I to do? I ask you?
Of course! I knew you all would agree. I had to unpack the sewing machine and a box of thrifted linens and make this poor child (wink) an apron.
So in a matter of an hour an a half, the exact time it took for the boys to watch Arthur and the Incredibles, I had found the perfect butterfly pillowcase and put together my first crayon apron. I will make a few changes to the next one...the pockets need to be a little shorter so that more of the crayons show. And luckily the birthday girl is a skinny-minnie because if she were much bigger the ties would not have been long enough. As she grows I might have to lengthen them. And I would have loved to have added some ric rack somewhere, because all girlies love ric rack. But it is in a box *somewhere*.
Happy Birthday M! I hope you draw many, many glorious butterflies in your apron. Love you!
