I'm starting to prepare for the "big day"... moving day. And by the title of this post, you can see I am already gettin' my Southern accent back. I was talking to my Dad the other night on the phone, and told him to kick me if I sound too much like I'm from Wisconsin. (just kidding, you Northerners) I pick up accents very easily according to my husband. He says all it takes is a good long talk with my family from Texas and my Is get longer and longer.
I have had an idea for making a backpack from an apron ever since I saw this one on Purl Bee by the extremely talented Liesl. I love backpacks. With three little ones, I need all of the hands I can get. And when my lotta book arrived and I saw how she did the casing at the top of her backpack, it all clicked. This morning I made this one out of a thrifted apron found at Value Village a few weeks back for $1.
I used some new orange Alexander Henry fabric for the casing at the top because the apron ran a little short, but I like the color combination. Orange and apple green...mmm...
Then when I got to the shoulder straps, the apron ties that I cut off were not long enough. So, more piecing was needed. Grammer's stash of vintage calicos came to the rescue again. I love this little brown floral print and think it goes OK. Hopefully not too pieced together. I kinda like it like that. Of course I do.
I discovered how hard it is to take a photo of your own back. I tried at least five different ways of getting a photo of the backpack acually on. But finally bribed Wyatt with some graham crackers if he would model for me.
It is also extremely hard to get a good photo of a little boy's back while he is dancing around in his mama's sunglasses. And now he won't give either the sunglasses or the backpack back. He's got his dog, one yellow rain boot, and three rocks in the pack and is headed outside. Gotta go catch him. He doesn't have any pants on. Happy Hump Day!
