I was on the phone to several friends in Virginia on and off all day today. I think all of the kids (I say kids, and it makes me feel old) that we know are safe and were either in class or their dorm rooms when it all happened. So, I am extremely thankful for that. But still so saddened and continue to pray for those who have lost those that they love. Thank you for your kind comments and emails.
I thought I would post Wyatt's elephant that I made for his birthday. Oma, my mother, sent me the kit that contained four socks and the patterns for both a monkey and an elephant. We are big elephant fans around here. Wyatt actually learned to make the elephant sound sooner than the monkey sound. Weird kid? Maybe.
Once you have the pattern, you could really apply it to any pair of socks of similar size. The older two boys already want one of their own. And I'm thinking our very large orphaned sock basket might be a great place to get some supplies for the next group of sock animals.
It was the first softy toy I have ever made. I think his trunk is a little long and I would have done the hand stitching of it to his body a little differently as well. But all in all, I am pleased and so is Wyatt it seems. He went to sleep with it last night along with the puppy he usually sleeps with. I guess we might be lugging two animals around with us in the car now.
Oh, and he is now sleeping in the big boys room, sharing a bed with one of them. Either one, it doesn't seem to matter. I guess he has decided he is a big boy now. Hmmm....all 3 boys in the same room in the next house seems like a real possibility.
Be well all.
