When I saw these bags from Frau Liebe on flickr I loved them and immediately thought of the vintage tea towels found at an estate sale last weekend for a quarter each.
One of the things I like about Frau's bags is the color surprises inside. I never in a million years would have paired such bright prints with a sad homely tea towel. I can not quite put my finger on why I like them so much, but I do.
Today, while Wyatt was napping (a 3 hour nap a mama only dreams of), I grabbed a snack and ran to the sewing machine to get started. This fabric was part of my Grammer's stash that I brought back from my visit home last year.
My mother worked for JCPenney for over twenty years...did you know they used to sell fabric? I remember hiding under the fabric bolt tables when I was a kid. We even had one of those tables as our kitchen table for a long time. See, the repurposing apple does not fall far from the tree. Anyway, I am sure Grammer came by this fabric via a purchase at my mother's store.
I like it very much as this is the first time I have made a tote that is fully lined! I know, I know...but Eren, it is so easy you are saying. Well, now I know how easy it is now thanks to this tutorial via Purl Bee. I have more teatowels, so there are definitely more to come. I think the next one will have a few pleats. Yes, pleats. I haven't ever done pleats either. But I'm on a roll. Oh, and I am patiently (or not so patiently) waiting for this tutorial from Purl via the fabulous Liesl. Have you seen this yet? I love the look and can see this backpack done with a few of these linen towels. Oh, this might be catchy.

April is a big celebration month for our family - four birthdays including Wyatt's and three wedding anniversaries. One of the anniversaries is that of my brother and his wife Chris. (Happy 5th Anniversary guys!) But the other two are biggies in my book. My grandparents, Grammer and Papaw, celebrated their 63rd anniversary on the 23rd of April. My parents celebrate their 39th anniversary on the Friday. Thank you all for providing such wonderful examples of hanging in there through good times and bad. Love you all!
