It is amazing what you find when you clean up. When I was in the midst of organizing the craft/sewing space I put my hand in the back of one of the shelves way up high and pulled out a Goodwill bag from months ago. And look what was inside!
I had stuffed them away so that my sweet husband would not be reminded of my thrifting habit yet again. Does anyone else have to thrift in secret due to a partners inappreciation of reclaimed objects? This is feeling more and more like an addiction all the time.
Hmmmm....now what to do with them. I am thinking pillows, apron pockets and the little blue flower basket is now my key ring. It really is too small for anything else.
If you want to see more examples of these little gems, check out this page on The Purl Bee. And while you are over there, check out what Purl did with wooden embroidery hoops and vintage fabrics. Man, I wish we were at the new house. I would do a whole wall of these using my Grammer's stash. Wouldn't that be fun?
And, have you been over to Tie One On to see the newest theme...ric rack!!! Let's see, crocheted potholders and ric rack on an apron together...my mind is racing.
There has been some productivity around here, mostly of the ripping layers of old wallpaper off of bathroom walls type of productivity. My friend Jamie shared her trick to getting the stubborned stuff to let go. If you mix Downy and warm water in a spray bottle at a one to one ration, it disolves the old glue. Muchas gracias for the tip Jamie, it works like a charm. And I am sure much less toxic than the other stuff we had been using. I don't mind scraping wall paper too much. Really. I like seeing what is beneath each layer one after another.
When we moved into this house two years ago, this bathroom was covered in early 90's burgundy and gold paisley wallpaper. S quickly and thoughtfully painted over it with white milk paint before we got here. But the wallpaper underneath was starting to peal and was getting worse with the help of little hands. So, before selling it, we needed to dig in and re do it. Underneath the paisley was another layer of beige wallpaper and then a sea green paint. Finally the last layer is pink. Im guessing that was the originall bath color. I find all of this incredibly interesting. Im weird, I know.
I did manage to make a little felt needle book last night using the instructions over at MS found via Bella Dia. I quickly freehand embroidered an E on the cover so that all of the boys in the house know it is MINE!
The oranges on the kitchen table that have been used as a pincushion are all sighing in relief. And I know you must be tired of hearing this, but the skies are grey here and it is snowing again. Again.
