S and I have always written notes to each other. In the early days when we were dating, he would buy me storebought cards and write long notes that would have to be continued on a seperate sheet of paper. Then after we were married and he was deployed so much, we wrote emails back and forth. Again, long emails about every little detail of our day so that the other would not be missing the tiniest part of the other's day.
And then the boys were born. And things go crazy. There was not time for sweet love notes anymore. Only time for feedings and changings and precious sleep.
S returned from a particularly hard deployment and it was evident our marriage was well...lets say we needed some help. So, we ended up in counseling. Thank God we went to counseling! He told us we weren't as bad off as we had thought. That we just needed some time to reconnect as a couple. One of the ways he suggested we do that was writing love notes to each other.
Those particular notes mostly were along the lines of "hope you have a great day and remember to get the milk please" and "please don't forget to take the trash out, smiley face". But ever so slowly they started to resemble real love notes again.
And once in awhile I get a long, mushy letter written while he is on a trip or some sweet sentiment written on a napkin. But mostly they resemble the one pictured above.
While I was taking a warm bath last night, he and the boys were coloring and working on their valentines. And this morning, I woke up to this heart colored with crayon cookies next to a coffee pot of already made warm coffee. It is short and sweet ...one word...but full of all of those long letters I used to get as well.
Te Amo Mucho Mi Amor! Hope you have a great day and please do not forget the milk.
