Several bloggers have talked about the February Funk that seems to happen to us all. And I am no exception. I am feeling it. I have started to develop that glazed over, transparent look from being inside for the past 3 days due to the cold. We are a family who gets out at least once a day. Even when we aren't feeling well, we go outside to sit on the steps, have a snack and get some fresh air. Our grandmothers were so right...fresh air is good for you. And I am starting to feel like we have been breathing the same air for way, way too long now. If it were 20 or 30 degrees I would probably open the windows for just a bit, but with the high temperatures in the negatives and the wind chills in the negative twenties, our warm, stale air has become a commodity. *sigh*
So, I am focusing on being thankful for our heater that is working, plenty of food in the pantry and coffee. Here are a few other things that are making me smile at the moment.
--- S has been reading Peter Pan In Scarlet, the sequel to Peter Pan, to Zane and Ian (and Wyatt if he is still awake) in the evenings. And I steal it after everyone is asleep to drool over the amazing illustrated silhouettes by Scott M. Fischer. Wouldn't these make great freezer paper stencils?
--- my new coffee mug that I found at Value Village for 49 cents.
--- Floresita's new embroidery blog that offers free downloads of vintage patterns. Go check it out and thanks Flor...they are beautiful!
--- the sound of feety pajamas coming down the hall in the morning and Scout laying in the sunshine.
--- blue corn tortilla chips with guacamole from fresh avocados at our new Mexican produce market That is a big deal for this town to get a Mexican market. I do not think it is a welcomed thing by all here in Kenosha, but I am shouting yahoo (not from the rooftops, because it is too cold)!
--- this new castle from Ryan's Room that is keeping the boys extremely occupied for up to an hour at a time. Gotta love that! Oh, and no I did not pay THAT for this castle. I found it on ebay for about a quarter of the price. 2 a.m. shopping pays off.
--- and new yarn from Somerhill Farms. Hopefully this yarn will magically be turned into new mittens via my hands and some new crochet skills.
--- Last but not least, the mention at Happy Things that she is thinking of starting up Every Little Thing again. *oh, I just checked in and Every Little Thing is BACK!!!*
How are you fighting the February Funk? How are you keeping your sanity if you are with us in the great white North? Many warm blessings to you friends!
